6 Reasons Direct Sales is Better Than a Part-Time Job
If you find yourself in a position that you may be considering some part-time work, I encourage you to take a look at direct sales instead. There are many reasons you might find yourself needing to find some part-time work, but given the benefits of direct sales this option makes a lot of sense!
1. Pay
A good majority of part-time jobs are paying minimum wage which varies by state, here in my part of NY it is currently $9.70 an hour. When I was in college I waited table and on a good night made about $16 an hour (it may or may not have been a long time ago), but let’s call it $25 an hour now. If you were to work 4 hours at minimum wage you’re looking at $38.80 for the evening, and using the wait staff example you’re looking at $100 for the evening. When you represent a direct sales company you are paid a commission on every item you sell! The commission typically ranges from 20%-50% of the product sales. With Norwex, the average party is $600* and your commission is 35%, a party takes about 3 hours including computer time. $210 for 3 hours. I don’t know about you but $70 a hour sounds better to me than $9.70 or even $25. *some parties are more, some parties are less.
2. Flexibility
Most part-time jobs you have a boss that will tell you when you are needed to work. It might be Friday night when you’d rather be out with the girls. It might be Sunday morning when your heart is at church. It may even be Tuesday evening when little Susie is the lead in the play. The point being you are usually not in control of your own schedule and need to ask for time off weeks ahead of time or it is your responsibility to find someone to cover your shift for you. In direct sales, your schedule is under your complete control. You decide when you are going to work and you do not need to ask permission when you want a day off. Don’t want to miss ladies night? Don’t work ladies night. Don’t want to miss church? Don’t work on Sunday. And you’ll never need to miss little Susie’s ANYTHING.
3. No Boss
There really isn’t much worse than having a boss you don’t particularly care for or get along with – it can make your time at work miserable. With direct sales, you are your own boss. There is no one else telling you what you must do or when it must be done, or if it’s not done good enough, or even worse – taking credit for your efforts. You are your only boss with direct sales. Keep in mind though, that when things aren’t going as well as you hoped, you’re also the one responsible for putting in the effort to get back on track. However, you’re in business for yourself but never by yourself.
4. Incentives
I’m certainly not an expert on part-time jobs but I did have a 20 year full-time career in the telecommunications field spanning clerical, technical, and engineering positions. I can tell you that I would receive incentives now and then, but it wasn’t very often. If my goals were met on a yearly basis I would receive some type of incentive ranging from a cash bonus to Visa gift cards. Miss any metric and nada. Part-timers? Nada. If you’re lucky you might get yourself free coffee or a soda during your shift. There’s certainly exceptions but I don’t think I’m off base here. I can only speak for being an Independent Sales Consultant with Norwex but we have incentives every single month! Then we have quarterly incentives, too! We have an annual incentive as well – TRIPS! Ohhhhhh, the trips! So far I’ve been to Costa Rica, Hawaii, Riviera Maya, and I’ve earned my way to Panama and will travel there in 2018! We are spoiled with incentives at Norwex. Every month when the box shows up, it’s like Christmas!
5. Recognition
Admittedly, it’s been a long time since my last part-time job and I quite literally can’t remember what recognition may have been like. I do know that I can go into some stores/restaurants and see their employee of the month plaques. Is that all there is? With direct sales, and Norwex in particular, there is so much recognition I was embarrassed by it at first! Some people, and women in particular, never receive the recognition they so rightfully deserve! Think about it, stay at home moms are responsible for cleaning the house, entertaining the children, teaching the children, bathing the children and themselves if they’re lucky, feeding the brood, shopping, taxi, keeping everyone generally safe and alive for another day. That’s a lot of work! What does mom get for it? Hugs which are absolutely priceless from the littles, but not often much from their peers. You deserve to be recognized for a job well done. You deserve to be recognized for your effort!
6. Tax Benefits
Does your part-time job have tax benefits? I do not know, I’m not a tax professional, lol! But, I tend to doubt it. When you join a direct sales company you now have a home based business and with a home based business there are loads of tax benefits! *Consult a tax professional for more information
Imagine you go into to your favorite retail store. You’ve been there several times and finally approach the store owner. “I have been to your store several times and love your product. I would really like to work here. The only thing I ask is the following:
- I would like 35% profit on everything I sell.
- When I bring someone in to work for you, I would like 5% of his or her sales.
- I would also like sales incentives that include free trips and prizes.
- Training once a month to increase my sales would be expected.
- I would like recognition when I excel at my work.
- I would also like a cash bonus and other incentives for helping find quality people to sell your product.
- I’d also like a monthly newsletter to keep me informed about new products, ideas, and motivation.
- By the way, I’m not into the 9-5 work hours. I want to set my own schedule and work when I want.
- And of course, my family always comes first!
“So, when do I start?”
After the storeowner recovered from shock, he roared with laughter. “You can’t be serious! You’re living in a dream world. You will never find an opportunity like that anywhere!” The story may be fictional, but the opportunity is not. This dream job exists within Norwex. To learn more click here
